Commitment to Responsible Whale Watching
Whale Watching Guidelines
At The Whale Centre, our passion for whales matches that of every guest who joins us on the water. Seeing these incredible animals in their natural habitat is a privilege — and protecting their wellbeing is our highest priority.
We are committed to responsible whale watching practices that not only meet but exceed Canada’s Marine Mammal Regulations. By maintaining safe distances and minimizing disturbance, we help ensure a healthy environment for the whales today and for generations to come.
Our Responsible Whale Watching Commitments
Maintain a distance of 200 metres from killer whales and any whale with a calf
Maintain a distance of 100 metres from all other whales
If a killer whale is identified as a Southern Resident, we leave the area entirely
Follow a parallel viewing approach to avoid disrupting natural behaviour
Limit viewing time with any one group of whales to 30–45 minutes
By choosing to travel with us, you’re supporting respectful, conservation-focused wildlife viewing that puts whales first — always.
