Yesterday afternoon we got word that a gang of Bigg’s Killer Whales were picked up behind Meares Island. Howie and I headed out on the Eco at 4:00 pm to see if we could identify the whales. We picked up the Killer Whales at Bear Bluff way back in the Bedwell. Right away we knew it was T023 and T023D and her offspring. We had just seen them behind Meares Island on Monday and observed them heading down the coast. I guess they are liking all the Sea Lions behind Meares Island! T023 and her family travelled to the back of the Bedwell and then turned around at the resort to head back out.
This gang who is locally known as Motley Crew were at one time frequent visitors to Clayoquot Sound but over the last few years we have not seen them as much. With six days of sightings in the past two weeks we hope they are going to spend more time in our waters this summer.
T023C and her offspring were not seen yesterday but I am hoping they are in the area. We saw them on Monday not too far behind her Mom and sibling.
We just got word that Killer Whales in the Bedwell this morning!
