Tofino is world renown for beautiful beaches, spectacular scenery, and fantastic whale watching. A visit to our area is not complete without getting out on the water and viewing whales in their natural environment. Our 2 ½ to 3 hour whale watching tours depart throughout the day from mid-March until early November.

The Whale Centre exclusively uses Boston Whaler boats for all our wildlife viewing tours. These open style boats are used by coast guards, researchers, and photographers, around the world, and are exceptionally seaworthy. ‘Whalers’ are referred to as the “unsinkable legend”, providing both exciting and safe travels on our rugged west coast.

We provide all our guests with Mustang survival suits, which keep you warm and safe while on the water, but we still recommend dressing in layers. Due to the unpredictable and occasionally rough sea conditions this tour may not be suitable for people who are pregnant or have back/neck injuries.

Our whale watching tours primarily focus on finding and viewing grey and humpback whales in Clayoquot Sound. Also on the tours we will often see sea otters, sea lions, seals, and if your very lucky, Orcas! Clayoquot sound is also home to many seabirds and you are likely to see dozens of species on our tours, which include a visit to our resident Bald Eagle nest.
